Meet your Orthodontists

Dr Nadja Hildebrand

Certified Orthodontist

It was Dr. Hildebrand’s own childhood specialist in orthodontics that fueled her passion to pursue orthodontics as a career – at each visit she noticed how much her orthodontist delighted in every patient interaction and was always in a cheerful upbeat mood all while truly enjoying working with her team and proudly raising 3 children!

With her goal set to become an orthodontist from this early age, Dr. Hildebrand used much of her free time before and during dental school to surround herself with mentors working in orthodontic offices as a receptionist and dental assistant. Dr. Hildebrand helped an internationally recognized American orthodontist (Dr. Douglas Toll) as a continuing education course coordinator and participant on weekends.

After finishing dental school and her research thesis in Frankfurt, Germany Dr. Hildebrand moved to Vancouver and successfully completed her National Dental Exam, which allowed her to begin practicing dentistry in Canada and finalizing her German thesis. Dr. Hildebrand was accepted as a post graduate student to participate in the Independent Dental Practitioner Program at the UBC and in private practice on the weekends. Part of the program allowed her to function as a part time instructor and lecturer at the University of British Columbia for the Problem based learning curriculum and to work for Dr. Alan Lowe the Head of the orthodontic program. That is where she began building her interest in sleep medicine.
While being qualified as a dentist in two countries was already quite the feat, Dr. Hildebrand was determined to fulfill her dream of practicing orthodontics as a specialist and was accepted at the University of Alberta to complete her specialist training in Orthodontics. While working on her second thesis, Dr. Hildebrand enjoyed the program’s strong clinical component treating many different patients and managing their unique treatment goals. Even while undertaking her additional university studies.

In 2004, Victoria welcomed Dr. Hildebrand as she started her fully qualified orthodontic career with Dr Hugh Lamont learning much about TMJ related treatments. Shortly after her arrival to Vancouver Island, Dr. Hildebrand gave birth to her first son followed by her second son 2 years later. Dr. Hildebrand‘s boys are the defining pleasure of her life and she grows prouder of them every day.

Her patients like to define her with the following: deft hands, attention to detail, perfectionist, caring, consummate professional, master of instruments, gentle touch, non- rushed, workmanship in a class of itself, client comes first, creating wonderful smiles.
Dr. Hildebrand took over the Ortho On Yates office in 2009 while working with Drs. Beatty and McDougall but made it her goal to maintain their culture of excellent orthodontic treatment with the existing exceptional team that creates a warm, cheerful and positive office atmosphere for all patients.

Now, Dr. Hildebrand is excited to be working together for many years into the future with Dr. Tyrone Zybutz, who has an exceptional talent to relate to our beloved patients of all ages.
While mild mannered and laid back, Dr. Hildebrand is an amazing athletic adventurer who loves to kite surf and ski with her two sons. If you were to ask her, Dr. Hildebrand will play it cool but she’s also an absolute champion on the tennis court. And at the end of a long day, Dr. Hildebrand loves a walk and a cuddle with her floppy and fun Bernedoodle.

Dr. Tyrone Zybutz

Certified Orthodontist

Dr. Zybutz started her career in dentistry after graduating from the University of Sydney, Australia. After a year spent practicing in the outback of Australia (think Crocodile Dundee), Dr Zybutz returned to Canada and spent another 2 years working in her home province of Alberta.

Orthodontics was an interest that began in dental school for Dr. Zybutz and she sought additional continuing education in orthodontics in her first years of general practice to better serve her patients. It didn’t take Dr. Zybutz long to realize that orthodontics was where she really wanted to focus her practice and that a few weekend courses were barely scraping the surface of the knowledge she needed to treat her patients safely, effectively, and comprehensively.

It was with extreme gratitude and excitement that Dr. Zybutz accepted a position into a 3 year specialist Master’s orthodontic training program at the University of Manitoba. As part of her residency, Dr. Zybutz competed and was awarded first place in the International Invisalign University Shootout competition for her clear aligner treatment. With her specialty training and additional years of orthodontic experience, Dr. Zybutz was thrilled to be asked to join Ortho On Yates where learning, growing and improving are integral part of the team culture. Dr. Zybutz loves being able to discover new knowledge from all her colleagues, especially Dr. Hildebrand who has helped make many of Victoria’s happiest and healthiest smiles!

Dr. Zybutz will tell you that the most rewarding part of orthodontic practice is building close relationships with her patients and really getting to know them over their time in her care. She loves watching her young patients grow in their confidence not only by helping them achieve a beautiful smile but also in showing them how important it is that they take ownership and responsibility in their own health and treatment outcome. Dr. Zybutz is meticulous in her approach to providing each of her patients with a customized orthodontic plan and ensuring they understand the “why” of her treatment recommendations.

Since she is still new to Victoria, Dr. Zybutz spends most her weekends exploring the island hiking and camping with her partner and her sister. Good food is easy to come by in Victoria, but Dr. Zybutz is always keen to hear your restaurant recommendations. We’ve found Dr. Zybutz to be an absolute human encyclopedia of random knowledge and she’ll admit she loves her trivia (especially animal facts) – test out her smarts on any subject of your choice when you have a chance! If she doesn’t know it, she’ll be super excited to learn from you.
